HI-TECH crews have began the installation of the first ever 4 meter high avalanche barriers to be installed along an interstate highway system in the United States.
The HI-TECH crew with their specialized skills utilized a helicopter to fly the concrete up on the mountain to where the foundations for the posts are to be installed. The helicopter made a total of 52 trips with a concrete hopper hanging below to bring to the HI-TECH workers on the rock slope for each above ground foundations. Each trip with the helicopter lasted an average of 7 minutes due to the 2 ½ mile trip each way to where the materials were readied for transport. The HI-TECH crew working together like a Nascar pit crew on the mountain was able to complete the work in 6 hours flying time. When complete there will be over 4,900 feet of avalanche barriers installed in the mountains along I-90 at Snoqualmie Pass. The project is expected to be complete in October of 2016.
